On this night a thick layer of clouds lay over western NY and obscured our view of a total lunar eclipse; but the moon favored us with a dramatic reappearance soon after it slipped free of Earth's shadow.
It gracefully glided into view through a gap opened in the curtain of clouds. By the time this image was recorded, the briefly carmine moon had been drained of color, although hints of blush stained the surrounding clouds.
