Shibaozhai Red Pagoda...through the mist, dimly
Located in Zhongzhou, Chongqing. It is famous for the wood-structured red pagoda, originally built during the reign of Emperor Kangxi (1654-1722). The 12-story pagoda rests against the massive rock called Shibao.
The rising waters from Three Gorges Dam threatened to destroy this landmark, but villagers resisted and managed to have a seawall built around the "peak" to protect the structures. It evidently succeeded because the Yangtze now has reached its ultimate (maximum) level.
