Across the entire front of this huge battle array is a vanguard (three men deep) of unarmored infantrymen. Following, in perpendicular ranks behind them are more unarmored warriors, horse-drawn war chariots and groups of armored infantry.
To the rear of what we see here lies an unexcavated (and/or unrestored) area that is about four times the size of this frontmost section. Since there are about 1200 restored figures on this end, the entire pit is thought to have contained about 6000 figures. And this is only one of three known pits!
